Message from our Principal

Aanii Warriors & Parents/Guardians,

On behalf of our dedicated team, we want to welcome you to the 2023-2024 school year. This school handbook was created with the aim of providing you with the necessary information which allows you, to become familiar with student responsibilities, and the Mr Foxexpectations, for success at our school.  You will also find helpful information on school policies, procedures, and the requirements for the completion of the Ontario Secondary School Diploma.  All the courses offered at the Wikwemikong High School are recognized by the Ministry of Education and Training and they are described in this handbook. For our grade 8s, you can also find the Ontario curriculum documents at:

http://www.edu.gov.on.ca/eng/curriculum/secondary/subjects.html

As parents and students, the Wikwemikong High School has a Tradition of Excellence around culture, language, and education.  You can rest assured that it is with great honor that our High School Team will be doing their best to be a part of the learning process for all our students. We are always looking forward to paving the way for our students for their post-secondary opportunities, trades, and/or work placement after high school.  We encourage everyone to bring their best for the 2023-2024 school year and as we move forward.  We hope that students, staff, parents, and community members will join me in highlighting the many wonderful things that are going on at our school.  Some of the highlights include:

- Literacy, Math, Science, Technology, and Engineering curriculum programming
- Arts programs
- Co-operative programming
- Clubs and extra-curricular activities (sporting events)
- Aniishnabemowin, Cultural, and Out-door education

As you can see, the Wikwemikong High School students, staff, and parents have a lot to be proud of.  In closing, it has been a unique and challenging past year in terms of programming. When the opportunity arrives, we would like to extend a special invitation to all parents and interested community members to become involved in the Wiikwemkoong High School life.  Please accept this invitation to become a parent in our parent council group when meetings resume this fall.  Our parent council has brought many great changes in the past and continues to be instrumental at the high school. They are committed to our students' success, graduation ceremonies, planning throughout the year, and meetings are held throughout the year.

We look forward to networking with the students, parents, and each other throughout the school year.  We welcome you to contact us at (705) 859-2870 to learn more about our school, and to answer your questions.

Mr. Harold Fox
Principal
